Sound Testing Association

Welcome! - We are the Sound Testing Association - we're a professional organisation which accredits members as having relevant and recognised expertise in acoustics for the sound insulation testing of dwellings and are competent professionals who can test and confirm results.

Accredited members meet the following standards: -

1. Proven Expertise: Demonstrate both theoretical and practical knowledge through examinations in acoustics for sound insulation testing.

2. Insurance: Hold both Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance.

3. Certified Equipment: Use UKAS-calibrated sound insulation testing equipment.

4. Test Procedure: Carry out testing in accordance with BS EN ISO 140-4: 1998 & BS EN ISO 717-1: 1997 for airborne sound transmission, and BS EN ISO 140-7: 1998 & BS EN ISO 717-2: 1997, for impact sound transmission.

5. Documents: Hold locally all relevant documents.

6. Auditing: Be Subject to Auditing (at least annually).

Stewart Douglas, our founder and managing director, is a highly experienced, multi-chartered construction design and management professional with over 45 years of industry expertise. Renowned for his robust technical abilities, extensive knowledge, and impressive array of professional qualifications and accreditations, Stewart's distinguished career includes serving as a Building Standards/Control Officer for several local authorities across Scotland. Additionally, he brings substantial expertise as an on-completion building performance tester specialising in sound insulation and air tightness.

Stewart's post-nominals are MSc, MCIAT, MCIOB, C.Build E MCABE, MCILT, MICWCI, MIFSM, CMaPS, TechIOSH, PCQI, REnvP - he is also a Member of the Elmhurst Airtightness Testing Scheme and the Sound Testing Association - Stewart's web site is www.ssd.scot
